1st International Conference on Pakistan-Russia Relations, where scholars from both countries wrestled with the ideas and research to analyze the bilateral relationship in contemporary geopolitics.
Introducing a new thought process to analyze evolving convergence between Pakistan and Russia, at the “1st International Conference on Pakistan-Russia Relations”, organized by the Federal Urdu University, Arts, Science and Technology in collaboration with Kazan Federal University, Russian Federation at Karachi. I hope will be able to write a paper as well.
As the world experiences profound geopolitical shifts, the relationship between Pakistan and Russia has gained renewed strategic importance. During the Cold War, the two nations maintained limited engagement, with Pakistan closely aligned with the West and Russia associated with India. However, in recent years, both countries have recognized the mutual benefits of enhanced cooperation, especially as the global order transitions towards multipolarity. With the global balance of power continuing to evolve—driven by the rise of new centers of influence and the realignment of traditional alliances—Pakistan and Russia are increasingly finding common ground.
Defense cooperation has grown significantly, marked by joint military exercises and defense training programs. In addition, their energy partnership has expanded, with projects like the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline exemplifying their deepening economic ties.
The significance of this partnership is further highlighted by their shared regional concerns, including the Afghan peace process, counter-terrorism efforts, and the need for stable regional connectivity. Russia’s support for Pakistan’s participation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other regional connectivity initiatives underscores the growing interdependence between the two nations as they navigate a complex and shifting global landscape. At a time when the global order is undergoing significant transformation—marked by the emergence of China as a dominant power, the ongoing US-Russia competition, and the realignment of regional alliances—Pakistan and Russia have a unique opportunity to strengthen their cooperation in ways that not only serve their national interests but also contribute to regional peace and stability.
The 1st Pakistani-Russian International Conference aims to create a unique platform for academicians, professionals, policymakers, and students from both countries to critically engage with the evolving bilateral relationship in this changing geopolitical context. Participants will explore the emerging dimensions of Pakistan-Russia relations across a wide range of fields, including defense, energy, trade, regional security, and technological collaboration.
This conference comes at a pivotal time, as both countries are recalibrating their foreign policies to respond to the complexities of the changing global order. By examining how Pakistan and Russia can adapt to these international shifts, the event will provide valuable insights into the future direction of their bilateral ties.
We are accepting abstracts of research papers from all over the world on the topic: The Evolving Pakistan-Russia Relationship in a Changing Global Order. Papers encompassing theoretical approaches, conceptual analyses, and performance evaluations are invited for presentations on the following.
